The Prophet was very particular in selecting suitable time and duration lest people may get bored in what he said. Ibn Masud narrated that the Prophet abstained from pestering them with sermons and knowledge all the time. (Bukhari, 1971, Hadith No 1.68, p.60)
Similarly Anas bin Malik narrated that the Prophet used to say we must facilitate religious matters to people and not to make it hard and make them run away from Islam. (Bukhari, 1971, Vol.1, Hadith No.69, p.60)
Once a companion reported to the Prophet that he would like to abstain from the compulsory congregational prayer simply because the prayer leader prolonged it every time. The Prophet was so furious he gave a severe warning and remarked that some people made others dislike good deeds. He advised them further to shorten the prayers since there were the sick, the weak and the needy (having some jobs to do). ( Bukhari, 1971, Vol.1, Hadith No.90, p.74)
